As we approach The Human Business Summit on 21st September and the launch of The Human Business Care Label it seems appropriate that this first blog covers three important announcements.

The Good Business Charter

The GBC was founded in February 2020 by Julian Richer, the founder of Richer Sounds (a company with a turnover in excess of £200m) and author of The Ethical Capitalist and The Richer Way.

I first came across it in January 2021 and was immediately impressed by not only the simplicity of their mission but how their values and principles very much align with those of The Human Business.

The Charter measures behaviour over 10 components: real living wage, fairer hours and contracts, employee well-being, employee representation, diversity and inclusion, environmental responsibility, paying fair tax, commitment to customers, ethical sourcing, and prompt payment.

In March 2021 we were accredited as one of their early members and we display their logo on our website with pride and would urge everyone to sign up to their charter.

Let’s all look to do business in a better way!

The Good Business Charter

The Better Business Act

The Better Business Act

The BBA is a simple legislative solution that by simply amending Section 172 of the Companies Act can use existing legal principles to empower directors to consider all stakeholders.

The draft Better Business Act (BBA) proposed by the BBA coalition changes the focus of the director’s duty from being a duty “to promote the success of the company” to being a duty “to advance the purpose of the company”.

Here’s our declaration to adopt this proposed change before any legislative change forces it upon us.

The Human Business Goes Social!

After 18 months of behind the scenes development (a huge thank you to everyone who has helped us get to this point) it’s time to get ‘social’!

We’ve now created social media accounts with Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.

We’ll be using our various social media accounts to not only share with you some of the many articles we come across, but also content that we hope will inspire you to put human into your business.

So whatever platform you use please join us there and help us spread the word about our mission to put human into 1 million UK businesses.

(and since life doesn’t revolve around social media we promise not to bombard you with tons of content.)

Well that’s it….

that’s our first blog post.

Thank you for taking the time to read it. I hope you found it interesting.

Do let us know if you either decide to join The Good Business Charter or adopt The Better Business Act and we’ll make sure to give you a shout out via our social media accounts.

I look forward to connecting with you on one of our social media accounts.

But until next time, stay safe and take care of yourself.
